The idea of profiling companies who are "doing well by doing good" made a ton of sense to Shama Kabani, the CEO of The Marketing Zen Group, a full service online marketing company, and author of The Zen of Social Media Marketing, soon to hit stores in its second edition.

It used to be that making high quality products or providing excellent service was enough to keep your business growing.  Not anymore.  According to a 2011 survey released by Cone and Echo Research with data from 10 countries, 81% of consumers say companies have a responsibility to address key social and environmental issues beyond their local communities; 93% of consumers say companies must go beyond legal compliance to operate responsibly; 94% of consumers say companies must analyze and evolve their business practices to make their impact as positive as possible.

So with data like this, it's clear no company can expect to succeed on core competency alone. But deciding to develop a corporate social responsibility program is often the easy part -- communicating it to their customers and their customers' customers is where it gets tricky.  "Social media has played a huge part in this sort of company messaging and sharing initiatives, building awareness and generating participation," says Kabani.  "But, even with the millions using Twitter and Facebook -- there are chunks and chunks of targeted customers who don't and TV continues to be the best way to reach them."  So every Saturday night as part of the 9pm news hour on The 33 in Dallas (and globally when posted online), viewers will see Socially Sound www.the33tv.com/shama when Shama Kabani sits down with CEOs to find out what they specialize in and what they are doing to help improve their community and often the world.

"The CEOs love it, their shareholders and investors love it, their employees love it -- but most importantly the customers love knowing they are buying from a company who cares and gives back!"
